Thomas Brown
Video Producer - Editor - Voice Over - Photographer
New York City based artist with over 25 years of professional experience
Thomas followed his love of video production and in 1998 left his office job permanently to work in the arts. He cut his teeth as an assistant video editor at HBO, working on documentaries and reality television. He became a skilled editor, camera operator, producer, and photographer. Some early career highlights include editing a wedding series for the Oxygen network and the animated series Little Einsteins for the Disney Channel; being a post-production supervisor for ABC’s Extreme Makeover; as well as producing and editing for advertising, marketing, and public relations clients.
In 2010, Thomas joined the New York City Fire Department’s (FDNY) Media Services Unit where he wrote and produced public safety information, diversity and inclusion messages, recruitment campaigns, fund-raising outreach, and multi-camera streaming live-events. He worked closely with subject matter experts to translate their knowledge into clear, concise, “user-friendly” videos. Thomas coined the phrase “FDNY Smart”, the fire and life safety outreach campaign the FDNY still uses today. His voice is widely recognized throughout Department. Having voiced hundreds of FDNY videos, he’s honored by being nicknamed, “The voice of the FDNY.”
In 2022, Thomas became the Senior Editor at the FDNY Fire Academy Production Unit. He leads a video production team specializing in firefighter training, probationary firefighter training, Learning Management Systems, emerging technology research and development, post-incident operational case studies and live press demonstrations.
Today, Thomas continues to follow his creative passions by writing, shooting and editing videos, photography and producing a wide range of media.
